Many MINI Coopers headed to Green Bay in July

Look for a big surge in the number of MINI Coopers in Green Bay next month.

Hundreds of the colorful cars will roll into the city on July 15 as part of the 10th anniversary of a coast-to-coast road rally called MINI Takes the States. Held every two years, thousands of MINI owners sign up to drive all or parts of a route that takes them across the country.

This year’s route starts July 9 at Atlanta Motor Speedway and ends July 23 in Palm Springs, Calif. Among the stops is Green Bay on July 15, where the rally’s MINI drivers will depart from St. Ignace, Mich., in the morning and make the 252-mile trek to Green Bay. They’ll congregate in the evening at Titletown Brewing Co. from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Participants will have a Rise and Shine event the morning of July 16 at the Brown County Fairgrounds in De Pere, where they’ll fuel up with coffee from Luna Cafe before leaving at 9 a.m. for the 334-mile ride to their next stop in Minneapolis.

Green Bay is the halfway mark on the 14-day trip. Other stops include Sioux Falls and Sturgis, S.D.; Cheyenne, Wyo.; Park City, Utah; Las Vegas; Charlotte, N.C.; Richmond, Va.; Baltimore; Pittsburgh and Detroit.

More than 2,000 MINI owners (and about 100 dog co-pilots) participated in 2014’s event, which traveled 5,200 miles. The stops in designated cities tend to attract a lot of attention from local residents.
